Ride along the stony shores of Lake Pukaki on the northern edge of the Mackenzie Basin on New Zealand’s South Island.
RIDE RECAP:
This was another great ride. Mostly rolling hills throughout! We had a large group at the finish. The last climb strung out the riders, but most regrouped just prior to the sprint.
For some reason, my ride never recorded on Strava, some kind of glitch. Anyway, I noticed I had a record 312 watts for 5 minutes on ROUVY. The fitness is slowly returning!

HISTORICAL:
Lake Pukaki is the largest of three roughly parallel alpine lakes running north–south along the northern edge of the Mackenzie Basin on New Zealand’s South Island. The others are Lakes Tekapo and Ōhau. All three lakes were formed when the terminal moraines of receding glaciers blocked their respective valleys, forming moraine-dammed lakes. The Alps 2 Ocean mountain bike trail follows the edge of Lake Pukaki for part of its length.(Wikipedia)
COURSE COMMENTS:
There are 2 hill Strava segments called Pukaki Hill 1 and Pukaki Hill 2. Hill 1 climb is a 1.16 mile climb of about 1.8-2% gradient at about an 1800 foot elevation. Hill 2 climb is almost 3% for a shorter distance of .58 or just over half a mile at about the same elevation.

This course is a middle distance course of 26.05 miles with an average gradient of 1% with a maximum of 7%, with an elevation of 882 feet. The course was added to ROUVY on December 13, 2021. The course has some nice climbing sections and rated as one of the top courses offered in ROUVY.
